Stallman should've been fired, not been allowed to resign and make the comments he did casting himself as some kind of free speech martyr without MIT disputing this, but that they did absolutely speaks to how routine this all is in academia. Defending him on the basis of his contributions is also incredibly stupid; read Foucault? A collective intelligence that Stallman mined heavily; had it not been him, it definitely would've been someone else. Just call yourself a creep, too, and go.

It's long past time the board exercised their duty under Article VI Section 7 of the bylaws and vote him out. I understand that they have tried before but failed. But by now, his behavior is doing serious harm to the public interest the public charity is chartered to support.
Many other folks have also cancelled their memberships over the weekend.
